Starting with The Tower Between, the trilogy follows seven Australian high schoolers as they discover that magic is real, are recruited into a secret organisation and begin leading a double life. Lying to friends and family, they must learn to wield the very magic that threatens their world, while still maintaining their mundane lives, including passing their exams.

As the trilogy continues in The Tower Besieged, the teens learn that magic creatures are not the only threat to the safety of their world, and in The Tower Broken, they must make hard decisions about their place in that world, and what it will cost them to take it.

The Tower Between is a Young Adult Adventure Fantasy filled with action, banter and coming of age in a modern world. It combines a strong and graspable magic system with the more recognisable challenges of a mundane high school e

Characters

Digital illustration of a young person with dark hair, wearing a light hoodie, black pants, and sneakers, holding a staff or pole, in a stylized pose with a serious expression.

Zack

Zack is intuitive and intelligent, but also distractable and not particularly motivated to achieve in his final years of high school.
He’s more interested in gaming, watching movies and brooding on his longtime and unrequited crush on Charlie. And recently, his grandmother has started losing her slow battle with cancer.

Life magic, with its potential to heal, might be the answer to all of his problems, or it might just be one more than he’s too distracted to get right.

Life Magic

A young man with blonde hair, wearing a purple button-up shirt with rolled sleeves, dark pants, and black shoes, stands with a serious expression while holding a large sword.

Art

Art is Zack’s best friend, and where Zack is unmotivated, Art has a thousand new ideas to throw himself at each week. He was already planning for this year to be the time to pull the two up from their low rung on the social ladder toward popularity and excitement.

And now, with Mind magic, that might be all the more possible.

Mind Magic

A young woman with long brown hair and blue eyes standing on a sports court with a tennis racket in her right hand, wearing a light blue t-shirt, beige shorts, white socks, and sneakers, pointing with her left hand.

Tabitha

A woman with short dark hair wearing a red sleeveless top, white skirt, and black knee-high boots with red laces, holding an electric axe in a battle stance.

Tabitha is popular, with adults and her peers alike. A natural born leader and volunteer with a sense of responsibility, and with the expectation of being school captain in her next and final year of high school.

Although now, with all the potential that Air magic brings, her priorities might be shifting.

Air Magic

Kimmy

Fire Magic

A young woman with long wavy blonde hair, wearing a red hoodie, blue jeans, and white sneakers, is holding a bow and arrow, looking over her shoulder with a confident expression.

Kimmy might best be described as ‘not for everybody.’

But that doesn’t bother her, because she’s for her. She smart, competitive, achieves what she sets out to and doesn’t compromise. That extends to her romantic life where she takes what she wants before moving on.

Fire magic might be a logical fit, but is the world ready for her to have access to it?

Charlie

Charlie is friendly, intuitive and avoids making waves. She’s been coasting through high school, looking ahead to a time when she’ll be free and able to travel the world.

She’s not sure about Animal magic, but it’s forcing her to shake things up and have a real look at what she’s doing with her life.

Animal Magic

A woman dressed in vintage athletic outfit holding a tennis racket in a ready stance.

Bast

Bast is athletic and popular, if there’s a game on or a team looking for members, he’s there. He’s First Nations Australian and gay, and openly proud of both, holding himself to the standards of what those identities mean to him.

Movement magic fits right in for him, and if he gets a little boost of speed of the field, that’s not cheating, that’s just using his talents.

Movement Magic

Digital artwork of a young woman with red hair holding a large axe, standing in a casual pose, with a dark background and cinematic lighting.

Jackie

Jackie is the youngest of the teens, something her small stature and shyness emphasises. Art is her older brother, and he’s tall and loud enough to give her the safe space away from too much attention.

And now with Protection magic, she can not only provide herself with some of that safety, but be ready to protect her brother when he inevitably needs it.
